Dear AKI-EPI investigators,
On behalf of the AKI-EPI steering and executive committees we want to give you our best wishes for 2011!
First we want to express our sincere gratitude for the blood sweat and tears you spent on this project. Without you this would not have been possible, so a big hurray for you all!
The AKI-EPI study is now reaching completion of data recording. Patients that were admitted before January 1st 2011 may be included; patients that were admitted after that date are excluded for the study. In order to allow you some time to record data we will close data entry on Sunday February 20th 2011.
A practical note on recording of discharge data: you may record 28-d outcome data instead of hospital discharge data when hospital stay is > 28 days.
It is a bit too early to give you a detailed update, but we can reassure you that this project went way over our expectations. Almost 1900 patients are recorded till now from units covering all continents of the world.
What is happening next?
A first set of preliminary data will be presented at the upcoming CRRT meeting in San Diego.
The first detailed analysis will be for an abstract for the 23rd annual meeting of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (deadline April 25th).
We will keep you posted on this with a newsletter and through the website.
As a practical matter, if you can keep your IRB or Ethics approval active (if relevant) for the next few months that will help in case there are any later data queries.
Best regards
On behalf of the AKI-EPI team
Eric Hoste John Kellum
